  • Purpose Of The Job

    The Transportation Manager will manage the day to day functions of the Newegg Transportation department, including all facilities in North America and the direct supervision of the transportation staff. The Transportation Manager will manage inbound and outbound shipments for Newegg’s North American Distribution Centers and customers, while optimizing transportation cost and service levels. The manager will also collect and analyze data related to daily shipment activity, identify opportunities for process and cost improvements, and follow through on operational or system improvement initiatives. Collaboration with leaders and business partners in Distribution, Customer Service, Sales, Operations and Finance are a key element of success in this position.


    • Develop and implement transportation strategy in support of Newegg corporate objectives.
    • Manage Transportation budget and monthly costs analysis
    • Develop and implement freight cost savings initiatives.

    • Conduct competitive bids/RFP’s when transportation strategy requires such

    • Build carrier service performance KPIs metrics, provide carrier performance feedback and ensures KPIs are met or exceeded.

    • Must maintain compliance to various regulations including those related to hazardous shipments, shipping documents and freight classifications.

    • Ensure compliance with all external regulatory requirements for both domestic and international shipments through adherence to appropriate policies.

    •  Manage and improve the claims function of the transportation department in regards to the filing, tracking, collection, and reduction in freight claims.

    • Oversee all aspects of the freight invoice review and approval process.
    • Initiate annual and spot market requests for capacity and pricing from carriers. Negotiate freight rates and make decisions on which carriers to select.
    • Provide ad hoc reporting and analysis for senior management as needed.
    • Direct activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking of carrier assets for Newegg over all modes of transportation, including LTL, Intermodal, Truckload, Air Freight, and Parcel.
    • Direct investigations to verify and resolve customer complaints and carrier inconsistencies.
    • Build strong carrier relationships, develop communication and coordination across all levels of the organization.
    • Stay current with freight practices and procedures and provide recommendations to improve based on changing market or network conditions.
    • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) and process lead in the area of Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
    • Follow safe operating procedures, support safety programs and policies to safeguard personal safety, company property, environmental and team member’s safety.
    • Develop and maintain work instructions and procedures that assist with the training and clear tactical execution of best practice and policies by the transportation team members.
    • Maintenance, repair, and replacement of shipping equipment/assets will be a requirement.

    Minimum Requirements & Special Attributes

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Transportation, Logistics, or Business Administration preferred
    • 10 or more years of Logistics/Distribution experience
    • 5 years of experience in direct personnel management.
    • Project Management, APICS or other related certification is preferred
    • Extensive knowledge of all transportation modes, billing, and claims processes
    • Familiarity with transportation law and contract administration
    • Strong computer skills including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
    • Knowledge of personnel management techniques and concepts
    • Understanding of WMS (Warehouse Management System) and TMS (Transportation Management Systems) and other related operation system platform.
    • Solid understanding of accounting and finance concepts
    • Strong quantitative and analytical abilities
    • Strong oral and written presentation/communication skills
    • Ability to manage multiple projects and related deadlines and interact with multiple levels of management along with demonstrated understanding of business issues required
    • Ability to acquire work/travel documents (i.e., passport and visa) as required by various countries.




    Essential Mental and Physical Functions

    • Sitting for extended periods is common.
    • Regular use of the telephone and company e-mail for company communication is essential.
    • Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals, calculator, and copiers.
    • No heavy lifting is expected.

    Equipment Used

    Strong MS Office skills with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Visio are preferred.

    Work Environment

    Office cubicle environment with minimal exposure to the environment or health hazards. Job is performed indoors in a traditional office setting. Activities include extensive work at a computer monitor and/or calculator.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    Will have up to three direct reports, and up to 5 indirect reports.

    Language Skills

    Must be able to speak, read, write and comprehend English.

    Travel Requirements

    5-10% domestic travel
